Federal, state retirement plans subject to revisions
Both houses of the State Legislature adjourned Monday sine die (without a future date being designated). That could mean that there will be no special session this year, which we have seen all too often in recent sessions. The main accomplishments have been discussed here in recent weeks including $1 billion/year in water funding for 20 years, a property tax break that includes a $200,000 homestead exemption for seniors, and $8.5 billion for teacher pay raises, operating expenses, campus safety, special education, etc. The $8.5 billion for schools and teachers has been praised by the state’s School Board Association and the state’s PTA organization. Within that school funding bill, $4.2 billion is reserved for teacher pay increases, the largest in state history.

Rifle team hits the mark at state championship
The State 4-H Rifle Championship match was held June 1 and it was a close battle – but when the last shot was fired, the Burnet County 4-H Youth Rifle Team took home both the individual and team state championship.

Cottonwood Shores swears in councilors
Cottonwood Shores Municipal Judge Don Adams swore in newly-elected council members Gary D. Parsons, Place 2, and Laura Hankins, Place 4, at a meeting following the May election. Both Hankins and Jared Dodd, who became mayor, won in uncontested races. Parsons defeated his opponent with 54% of the vote.

MFISD approves architectural contract related to May bond
The Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees took the first step in athletic facility updates. They approved a contract with Pfluger Architects for $3.275 million for “comprehensive architecture and engineering services for the softball field synthetic turf, new baseball field, multipurpose facility/auxiliary gym/weight room, Max Copeland Gym locker room additions and renovations, and CTE wing addition and renovations projects at Marble Falls High School.” The approval came during the board’s regular meeting May 19.
