Expert birders to share experiences, June 5
Highland Lakes Birding and Wildflower Society offers many opportunities throughout the year to observe birds and wildflowers with others. Members and visitors alike have shared experiences monthly at Haley Nelson Park in Burnet and Inks Dam National Fish Hatchery; yearly with the Christmas Bird Count, The Great Backyard Bird Count and Golf Cart Birding; and occasional field trips, like Museo Benini southeast of Marble Falls, Canyon of the Eagles on Lake Buchanan and San Antonio Botanical Gardens, to name a few.

Grant to give Granite Shoals water access edge
Granite Shoals is anticipating a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that city officials believe will increase and upgrade the city’s ability to pump water out of Lake LBJ. It will cost the city $50,000 in matching funds, according to the grant.

Marble Falls schools receive a ‘C’ in latest ratings
A state entity has given Marble Falls Independent School District a grade of “C” in a contentious rating system that not only measures academic success but post-graduation preparation. Marble Falls ISD officials pointed to several factors prompting the fall from “B” to “C” in the Texas Education Agency’s 2023 A-F accountability ratings for school systems and campuses statewide.

Netters get tough draws at state tourney
The Marble Falls High School tennis program’s season culminated at the Class 4A state tournament May 15-16 in San Antonio. Junior Cooper Womack lost in the first round to Malcolm Moore of Dallas Pinkston 3-6, 2-6, and the boys doubles team of Weston York and Cooper Kelley lost to Zachary Bobo and Jackson Tomberlain of Texarkana Pleasant Grove 0-6, 0-6 in the first round.
