Texas State University senior high jumper Kason O’Riley is the NCAA Men’s Division I co-runner- up after clearing 7 feet and 2.5 inches June 13. The NCAA Men’s Division I Track and Field Championships was in Eugene, Oregon.

Vandals, thieves damage and steal downtown sculptures
From a concrete mosaic to a bronze horse and rider piece, Marble Falls police are probing a recent spate of theft and damage to downtown sculptures. The most recent report involved a $7,000 mosaic sculpture in front of a business in the 200 block of Main Street.

Prison chapel celebration evokes praise, hope for inmates
“It is official now – God’s work is done.” Thus spoke Texas Department of Criminal Justice Chaplain Richard Cartwright during the ceremony dedicated to opening the new non-profit Joseph’s Hammer Chapel June 13 at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Ellen Halbert Unit for Women in Burnet at 800 Ellen Halbert Drive. Spontaneous shouts of “Praise God!” erupted from the audience after the remark by Cartwright, which he uttered before more than 250 attendees inside the main room of the new facility, which spreads over 8,000 square feet behind razor-wire.

AquaBoom’s 2025 Grand Marshal receives star treatment
Hafdis Gentry, who someone once called a “powerhouse” behind the scenes, received a surprise visit from balloon- carrying family and friends several weeks ago at Wakepoint in Kingsland. Awarding her the honor of serving as this year’s AquaBoom Grand Marshal caused many Hafdis tears and humble acceptance, but all who know her and the endless hours of volunteering in her community couldn’t imagine anyone more deserving of this recognition.
