Incumbent Phelan exits Texas House Speaker race, Chairman Burrows enters
Speaker Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) is dropping out of the race for a third term, he told members on Thursday morning and afternoon. Speculation whizzed around yesterday that Phelan would step aside ahead of Saturday’s Texas House Republican Caucus vote, and Phelan himself shrugged off those assertions to reporters on Thursday evening.

Trustees reject employee resignation reasons
Two Marble Falls ISD educators face possible suspension of their teaching certificates after school trustees refused Monday to accept their reasons for resigning before the end of their contracts. Texas law requires teachers to work up to 45 days before the last school day of the year; quitting before that date can result in sanctions from the Texas Education Agency unless the educators’ school board elects to grant an exception.
