A nationally-known wakeboarding champion celebrated local high school athletes who excelled to the top of their classes in statewide UIL competition.

Eight-time wakeboarding world champion Harley Clifford was the main attraction during Meet the Champions May 22 at Wakepoint in Kingsland on Lake LBJ.

Local students who joined him were Marble Falls High School senior Kason O’Riley, who cleared the 7-foot mark at State; Llano High School senior Case Kuykendall, who made school history twice this school year. As a quarterback, he led his football team to the Class 4A final four. He was also part of the first boy’s relay team from Llano High School to go to State; and Hudson Bennett, a sophomore at Burnet High School, who shattered the school record for the 3200-meter run by 15 seconds at the District meet. He also broke a long-standing 1600-meter run school record at State.
