Horseshoe Bay residents already have several items on the November ballot to consider, from state constitutional amendments to a local sales tax election. After Tuesday, Aug. 24, voters may have the opportunity to affirm or reject the city’s proposed tax rate in November as well.

Brian Frazee was commuting from his job in Dallas to his home in Horseshoe Bay as he always does several months ago when his aircraft was nearly hit by an oncoming vehicle on Air Park Street. Frazee is hoping some changes unanimously approved at the Tuesday, July 20, Horseshoe Bay City Council meeting will make travel along Air Park Street safer for airplane pilots like himself as well as motorists and pedestrians who also use the street.

Hoping to collect up to an additional $200,000 per year, the Horseshoe Bay City Council voted unanimously Tuesday, July 20, to call for special election to be held Nov. 2 to increase the sales tax rate from 1.75 to the maximum 2 percent allowed by state law.

Sales tax allocations for nearly all of Burnet County’s municipalities continued to show staggering gains this month, a good omen for these communities as they engage in their budgeting for the upcoming fiscal year.
