City officials approved going forward with acquiring $8 million in sales tax revenue bonds to pay for a number of parks improvement projects that include everything from a new crossing over Backbone Creek to a waterfall feature in Lake Marble Falls.

Dig setbacks have temporarily stalled a multi-million dollar bank stabilization project along Backbone Creek, expected to restart soon as the city dips into contingency funds to repair issues including a raw water line construction mishap.

LCRA approves business, capital plans

The LCRA Board of Directors on Wednesday approved a business plan of more than $395 million and authorized capital investments of more than $517 million for energy, water and public service projects to support Texas in fiscal year 2022.

Prior to March 15, a retaining wall with a dock was utilized by kayakers, canoe enthusiasts and anglers along the shoreline of Backbone Creek. To offer uniform construction, the city approved the structure’s removal as part of an overall bank stabilization project, funded primarily by bond debt and grants. With additional grant funding and re-allocated bond debt in hand, Marble Falls City Council March 16 voted for amendments reflecting approximately $350,000 in changes to expand and make adjustments to work for an ongoing bank stabilization project on Backbone Creek.

A cache of items believed to be “artifacts” on Backbone Creek has launched protocols for analysis and cataloguing of the site, officials said. The find was uncovered by crews working on a bank stabilization project on the shoreline of the creek in Johnson Park.
