'Raise the Roof' benefit a boot-scootin' success
Jake Hooker and his legendary band, The Outsiders, took to the stage Saturday, June 22, at the Burnet Community Center to host a benefit for Joseph’s Hammer. The event brought people from all over Texas together to help “Raise the Roof" on the prison chapel under construction at the Ellen Halbert Unit women's facility in Burnet.

Lake levels improve but area still in the drought zone
Haven’t the recent rains been wonderful? While we are so thankful for the new inflows to our lakes, especially Lake Buchanan, not all of our lakes have had the same benefit. Lake Travis is still down 45 feet and our combined storage is only at 56%. This drought is not over.

Banking employees refine career paths with TTU, WSRCA partnership
On May 15, 2024, eight banking employees throughout Burnet and Llano counties successfully completed an intensive Bank Credit Analyst course series at Texas Tech University Highland Lakes, paving a lucrative career path to Credit Analyst or Loan Officer that can evolve to senior leadership positions. This is the first time that bank workers have had local access to an industry- recognized credential specific to their chosen career.

Bustling summer gets busier for Marble Falls athletes
As the calendar starts to turn to July, Marble Falls Independent School District athletic director and head football coach Keri Timmerman reflect ed back on a busy start to the summer. He and his coaches have been on campus Monday-Thursday mornings for workouts as part of Marble Falls Forge ‘24, the department’s strength and conditioning program.

Help celebrate Independence Day in Marble Falls
“We are preparing for our inaugural 4th of July Parade on Thursday, July 4th, through our historic Downtown Marble Falls and we need you and your organization to participate to make this a great first year!" So says Daulton Mobley, manager of the Parks and Recreation Department, who reached out to various organizations around town. He also released a schedule of the events planned for the annual Independence Day celebration, hosted by the city of Marble Falls.

Distemper outbreak shutters venues, pounds
A dog which tested positive for distemper, followed by a handful of others showing signs, tipped off a mass shutdown of local shelters, pounds and dog parks in the Highland Lakes. Since mid May, entities who limited or halted intakes altogether included the Marble Falls City Pound, the Buchanan Dam-based Hill County Humane Society and other municipal and rescue animal holding facilities.

Granite Shoals council finalizes city manager
Granite Shoals has a new city manager. Interim City Manager Sarah Novo and council members agreed on a $158,000 annual contract after the council retreated behind closed doors for a 46-minute executive session during their June 25 meeting.
