Memories of cycling, ‘devilish’ machines and spooking horses
Some years ago I was involved with some local bicyclists who were on the serious side of compulsive addiction to the sport. We'd go out in Llano and Burnet counties and ride county and state roads for 50 or 60 miles. This was 12 to 15 years ago, when traffic was much lighter than today. Sanity and thoughts of self preservation have since overtaken me, and I hung my bike from the rafters in my garage, where it still hangs today. 09/17/2024 04:36 AM

Rain lilies signal a time to prep for fall gardening
As the summer heat begins to subside, September is an excellent time to prepare your garden for the fall season. 1. Plant Cool-Season Crops – Plant broccoli, cauliflow er, kale, spinach, and carrots in early September for a fall harvest; 2. Maintain Lawn Care – Continue to mow and water your lawn regularly. Consider de- thatching, which involves removing dead grass and debris from your lawn to improve airflow, reduce fungal diseases, and pro- mote healthy growth. You can use a dethatching rake or a power rake for this process; 3. Divide and Transplant – Divide and transplant perennials like daylilies. To do this: Dig around the daylily clump, making sure to get as much of the root system as possible, Gently wash 09/13/2024 04:33 AM

Spruce up your land with trees for new beginnings
Fall is a great time to plant a new tree or shrub, symbolizing new begin nings. A friend of ours has a wonderful family tradition where her grandmother would plant a new tree every time a grand child was born. 09/06/2024 04:29 AM
