Horseshoe Bay city council members approved an ordinance Tuesday setting $9.9 million worth of certificates of obligation, clearing the way for work on city water and wastewater and street improvements. The vote was unanimous.

Llano County ponders energy plan
Llano County commissioners are considering a move they say could bring better loan conditions to developers as well as better economic development to the county. It’a called Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) and it involves a contract between the county and a nonprofit state agency which will then assess the project’s water- and energy-saving infrastructure to learn how much can be saved over the life of the equipment.

City raises concerns about mine’s permit renewal
Marble Falls City Council recently approved the filing of a protest with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) against Huber Carbonates LLC, which operates a limestone and mining facility, just off Avenue N. Unanimously, the council gave thumbs-up to the protest during its May 20 meeting in City Hall at 800 Third St.

Company pauses permit for rail line project
Officials working on a controversial rail line project have halted the permit application process, citing a need to do more “assessment and evaluation.” Texas Materials, a Cedar Park-based company, notified public officials, politicians and media that they are pausing their federal permit application for the project. The company, a subsidiary of CRH Americas Materials, had plans to upgrade 27 miles of rail line to transport aggregate rock materials.

Grant to give Granite Shoals water access edge
Granite Shoals is anticipating a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) that city officials believe will increase and upgrade the city’s ability to pump water out of Lake LBJ. It will cost the city $50,000 in matching funds, according to the grant.

Marble Falls schools receive a ‘C’ in latest ratings
A state entity has given Marble Falls Independent School District a grade of “C” in a contentious rating system that not only measures academic success but post-graduation preparation. Marble Falls ISD officials pointed to several factors prompting the fall from “B” to “C” in the Texas Education Agency’s 2023 A-F accountability ratings for school systems and campuses statewide.
