EDC approves $24K park grant request
During its recent meeting, the Marble Falls Economic Development Corporation board approved a community leverage application of $24,000 requested by Villa Vista Park. Board members including Judy Miller, Ryan Nash, John Packer (also the Marble Falls mayor), Mark Mayfield (board vice president) Lindsay Plante, Steve Reitz (board president) and Dave Rhodes voted unanimously in favor of the request.

Council approves Packsaddle Thunder Rock bid
Marble Falls City Council recently approved the Packsaddle Management bid to build the Thunder Rock Maintenance Facility, to help complete construction of the Thunder Rock Sports Complex. The council voted 6-0 for the contract during the June 3 meeting at city hall, 800 Third St.

Cottonwood Shores swears in councilors
Cottonwood Shores Municipal Judge Don Adams swore in newly-elected council members Gary D. Parsons, Place 2, and Laura Hankins, Place 4, at a meeting following the May election. Both Hankins and Jared Dodd, who became mayor, won in uncontested races. Parsons defeated his opponent with 54% of the vote.

MFISD approves architectural contract related to May bond
The Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees took the first step in athletic facility updates. They approved a contract with Pfluger Architects for $3.275 million for “comprehensive architecture and engineering services for the softball field synthetic turf, new baseball field, multipurpose facility/auxiliary gym/weight room, Max Copeland Gym locker room additions and renovations, and CTE wing addition and renovations projects at Marble Falls High School.” The approval came during the board’s regular meeting May 19.

Despite runoff, low lake levels persist
As schools let out throughout the Highland Lakes, the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) reminds lake revelers of potential hazards due to low waterway levels. Lakes Buchanan and Travis, the two water supply reservoirs in the Highland Lakes, are significantly below full because of the ongoing drought, which means underwater hazards such as trees or drop-offs may pose more of an immediate risk to swimmers and boaters.

Jury sentences pantry founder for child sex abuse
A 70-year-old Granite Shoals pantry founder received a sentence of almost 30 years in prison following the outcome of a week-long child sexual abuse trial. Guerrero was found guilty after three hours of deliberation by a Burnet County jury on May 22.
